Intro Technologies UV Light

UV Light

The UV disinfection is used as a supplementary disinfection of the pool water. The UV light is created in a low-pressure (LP) or medium-pressure (MP) UV lamp. The primary function of a UV radiation is the destruction of bacteria, viruses, molds and their spores.

The low-pressure UV lamp has an optimised wave length of 265nm, which ensures the maximum germicide effect. The differences in the LP UV lamp technological solutions are nevertheless huge. Even for small pools with a UV lamp it is advisory to equip them with a sensor and a radiation monitor, which automatically controls its power and protects it from a possible malfunction or damage.

A medium-pressure UV lamp emits a polychromatic light in the 230-310nm range (200-400nm), which adds photochemical and photooxidation reactions, breaks down chloramines, limits unpleasant odours in the vicinity of the pool and lowers the amount of bound chlorine. These devices are equipped with electronics, which ensure a fully automatic operation. The life cycle of a UV lamp is approx. 800 hours. After that, it needs replacement.

The MP UV lamps have a considerably higher effect on the water quality than the standard LP UV lamps. The UV lamps bring a significant increase in the quality of the water disinfection, while also lowering the amount of dilution water needed. The acquisition and operation costs of UV in a standard operation return in the form of lowered other operation costs in 2 years, at the latest.

The UV or ozone method as a supplementary disinfection should not be missing in any modern pool.
